Three members of the High Council of Justice were elected
On August 15, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine elected Maselko Roman Anatoliiovych and Moroz Mykola Volodymyrovych as members of the High Council of Justice.
At the Congress of representatives of higher education and research institutions in the area of law that continued its work on August 19, 2022, Lukianov Dmytro Vasyliovych was elected to the position of a member of the High Council of Justice.
Presentation of the concept of optimization of local general courts of Zakarpattia region took place (updated)
Heads of the judicial power bodies of Ukraine, people's deputies of Ukraine, judges, international experts discussed the concept of implementing a pilot project to optimize local general courts in Zakarpattia region.
The round table “Optimization of local general courts: a pilot project in Zakarpattia region” was organized by the EU Project “PRAVO-JUSTICE”.
The concept of the pilot project proposes optimization on the principle of “one district – one court”, provided that the courts of the Tiachivskyi and Rakiovskyi districts are united through a smaller population than in other districts, that is, the formation of five courts is envisaged.
Acting Chairman of the HCJ Vitalii Salikhov noted the importance of reforms being carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine and laws and stressed that any reorganization, liquidation of courts in accordance with Article 125 of the Constitution of Ukraine should take place only after consultations with the High Council of Justice. Therefore, the entire judicial community is interested in the resumption of the activities of the Council in its entirety.
The HCJ appealed to the Minister of Finance regarding the speedy resolution of the issue of jurors` remuneration payment
The High Council of Justice appealed to the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko, with a request to contribute to the speedy resolution of the issue of guaranteeing the rights of jurors and to pay remuneration to jurors for the time they perform their duties in court in 2022.
The Selection Commission held the webinar “Completion of the application period of the competition to the HQCJ: what should the candidate pay attention to”
During the event, prospective candidates learned about typical mistakes while filing applications and documents by the candidates for the participation in the competition for the position of the HQCJ members. Members of the Selection Commission, Yevhen Miezientsev and Robert Broekhuijsen, explained the main terms and conditions of the competition and its changes, taking into account martial law and ensuring the principles of transparency, independence and political neutrality, and also answered key questions from candidates regarding the preparation of documents.
250 candidates apply for the position of the HQCJU member
The list of candidates as of August 25, 2022 was formed by the Selection Commission, taking into account the withdrawal of the application for admission to the competition of candidate Bratasiuk Viktor Mykolaiovych.

The HCJ members Oksana Blazhivska and Inna Plakhtii took part in the regular meeting of the working group established under the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.
Considering possible ways to simplify the procedure for selecting judges, the participants agreed on necessity not temporarily, but on a permanent basis to develop mechanisms for optimizing this procedure, in particular, reducing duration of admission to selection, duration of a special check, etc
The participants found out the current state of the judiciary financing, discussed draft laws on regulating the status of an assistant judge and the concept of simplifying the procedure for selecting judges, aimed, inter alia, at solving the problems of the funding the judiciary and overcoming the staff shortage, as well as preparing proposals for the draft state budget of Ukraine for 2023 in terms of the judiciary financing and proposals for the recovery plan of Ukraine regarding the financing of the judiciary.
The IV Extraordinary All-Ukrainian Conference of Prosecutors has been postponed until the receiving conclusions of the Ethics Council
On August 26, 2022, the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine decided to postpone the holding of the IV Extraordinary All-Ukrainian Conference of Prosecutors, because as of the scheduled date of the conference, there were not provided by the Ethics Council all the conclusions on the compliance of candidates with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity.
The date of holding the IV Extraordinary All-Ukrainian Conference of Prosecutors will be determined immediately after receiving the conclusions of the Ethics Council on the compliance of each candidate with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity, as well as the list of candidates recommended for election to the position of a member of the High Council of Justice.
