The work of the courts in the de-occupied territories of Kherson region should be ensured – the HCJ

On May 16, 2023, a coordination meeting took place in the High Council of Justice to clarify the actual possibility of restoring the functioning of the courts in Kherson region.

The Chairman of the HCJ Hryhorii Usyk emphasized that it is crucial to prioritize creating safe working conditions, including providing mobile shelters, repairing court premises, restoring power supply, ensuring access to the internet and addressing personnel issues such as ending the secondment of judges and returning them to the courts in Kherson region.

In the course of the discussion, the representatives of the High Council of Justice expressed their position that the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine should develop a clear plan of action that will enable the courts to resume their work within defined timelines.

The work of the Balakliiskyi district court of Kharkiv region has been resumed

On May 18 травня 2023, the HCJ decided to resume the work of the Balakliiskyi district court of Kharkiv region since June 1, 2023.

From May 1, 2023, the cases of the Balakliiskyi district court of Kharkiv region were transfered for consideration to the Kominternivskyi district court of the city of Kharkiv.

Thus, the Kominternivskyi district court of the city of Kharkiv will continue to consider cases received by this court up to and including May 31, 2023.

The HCJ granted its consent to the detention of judge Vsevolod Kniaziev

On May 18, 2023 the HCJ upheld  the motion of the Deputy Prosecutor General – the Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and granted consent to keep the judge of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Kniaziev in custody.

The HCJ supported the unblocking of disciplinary proceedings against judges

The HCJ approved an advisory opinion on the draft Law of Ukraine “On making amendments to certain laws of Ukraine on the resumption of consideration of cases on disciplinary liability of judges and ensuring the work of the Disciplinary Inspectorate Service of the High Council of Justice” (No. 9261).

The draft law was developed to ensure the resumption of the consideration of cases on disciplinary liability of judges, as well as to ensure the functioning and beginning of the work of the Disciplinary Inspectorate Service of the High Council of Justice.

The HCJ shares the position of the legislator regarding the need to restore the disciplinary function of the Council as soon as possible and notes that the implementation of the draft law will allow to resume consideration of cases on disciplinary liability of judges and ensure the beginning of work and functioning of the of Disciplinary Inspectorate Service of the High Council of Justice.
