Today, on May 16, 2023 the members of the High Council of Justice were invited to participate in the Plenum of the Supreme Court to address the issue of passing a no-confidence motion against the President of the Supreme Court. The members of the High Council of Justice withheld participating in its work to avoid any potential conflicts of interest that may arise in the future.
The High Council of Justice is responsible for deciding on matters related to granting consent for the detention, taking under custody or arrest of a judge, as well as the temporary suspension of a judge from the administration of justice (in accordance with Chapters 7 and 8 of the Law of Ukraine “On the High Council of Justice”).
We also inform that the High Council of Justice is preparing letters to NABU and SAP regarding the provision of information on possible influence in the selection of the members of the HQCJ.
It should be reminded that on May 12, 2023, the High Council of Justice completed the interviews with candidates for the positions of the members of the HQCJ of Ukraine. Currently, there is a discussion and formation of a list of these candidates. This procedure, according to the approved Methodology for conducting interviews, selection, and appointment of candidates for the position of the member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, is carried out by the HCJ confidentially and is not subject to public disclosure.
