On August 10, 2022, the Secretariat of the High Council of Justice completed the transfer to the Ethics Council of copies of materials regarding 44 candidates for the position of a member of the HCJ, which may help to establish their compliance with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity.
In particular, at the request of the Ethics Council, 1 415 case files on complaints that had been received by the HCJ in previous years against 42 candidates for the position of a member of the Council, were transferred in electronic form. In a short period of time, the staff of the Secretariat scanned 57 120 pages of cases (disciplinary complaints, annexes to complaints, decisions taken by the HCJ, its bodies and members of the Council, etc.).
No complaints were received by the HCJ in regard of two candidates.
All requested information was submitted to the Ethics Council within the ten-day period established by law. To ensure the fastest possible implementation of the necessary procedures, the HCJ Secretariat handed over part of the documents last week.
It should be recalled that on July 15, 2022, the Secretariat of the HCJ submitted to the Council of Judges of Ukraine and to the Ethics Council opinions on the compliance of candidates elected by the XIX Extraordinary Congress of Judges of Ukraine to the position of a member of the High Council of Justice and their documents with the requirements established by the Law of Ukraine “On the High Council of Justice”.
The Secretariat of the HCJ takes all measures for the prompt and high-quality processing of the necessary documents and the implementation of all the norms determined by law in order to resume the work of the High Council of Justice.
