The SJA of Ukraine informs about activities of courts as of March 28, 2022

The SJA of Ukraine notes that as of March 28, 137 (21%) courts of appeal and local courts do not administer justice. 35 courts remain damaged or completely destroyed - 5% of the total number (777) of court premises. 32 premises of judicial institutions were critically damaged – broken windows, no power and heat supply, ceilings, internal doors were damaged, internal partitions between offices were destroyed, courtrooms were damaged, no heat supply, drainage, electricity, etc.

The premises of three courts were completely destroyed: 1) Borodianskyi district court of Kyiv region; 2) Iziumskyi local-district court of Kharkiv region; 3) Kharkiv Court of Appeal, the building of which is listed building of local significance. 49 (7%) courts are located in the territories temporarily not under the control of the Ukrainian authorities.

For the period from February 24 to March 28, courts adopted and sent to the Unified State Register of Court Decisions 252 557 decisions (as 21.03.22 there were 151 662), of which:

by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court – 206 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 160);

by administrative courts of appeal – 17 164 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 9 208);

by economic courts of appeal – 3 227 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 1 346);

by general courts of appeal – 16 399 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 10 317);

by district administrative courts – 54 763 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 30 763);

by local economic courts – 12 570 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 7 814);

by local general courts – 148 215 decisions (as of 21.03.22 – 9 054).

“If we compare the weekly figures, we will see that they have an upward trend. The most revealing figures are on consideration of cases in administrative courts of appeal – 7 956 decisions per week, by general courts of appeal – 6 082 decisions, by district administrative courts – 24 000 decisions per week, local general courts took 56161 decisions. For me, these figures mean one thing – the judiciary has withstood and entrenched itself on the frontiers that the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided it with, and citizens have received the necessary access to justice,” said the Acting Head of the SJA of Ukraine Oleksii Salnikov.

As for the use of resources of the Integrated Judicial Information and Telecommunication System, the head of the SJA of Ukraine noted that for the period from February 24 to March 28 5281 court hearings were held via videoconferencing (as of 21.03.22 there were 3 579). During the specified period, 1 242 new users were registered in the subsystem (as of 21.03.22 – 966), 17 752 applications/petitions were sent to courts (as of 21.03.22 – there were 12 722 of them). The contact center of the judiciary and the technical support service for the work of courts processed 5 727 appeals (4156 – as of 21.03.22).
