The statement of the HCJ in connection with the notification regarding the appointment of 222 “judges” in temporarily occupied territories

21.08.2023

In connection with the media publication regarding the decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 607 concerning the appointment of 222 “judges” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the High Council of Justice deems it necessary to state the following.

The voluntary assumption of positions by Ukrainian citizens in illegal judicial bodies established in the temporarily occupied territory may have characteristics of collaborative activity, which is punishable according to the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The "Judicial decisions" of such "judges" will be deemed worthless.

As stated in the message of the National Resistance Center, such a decree by the President of the russian federation on the appointment of judges may indicate the establishment of a coercive apparatus for carrying out repressions against the local residents in the temporarily occupied territories.

We emphasize that appealing to pseudo-courts will testify to the recognition of the illegally established authorities created by the russian federation on the occupied territory and will contribute to their occupation activities.

Ukraine is a sovereign, independent, and legal state. Its sovereignty extends over the entire territory within internationally recognized borders.

The courts in Ukraine are established and operate in accordance with the Constitution and laws exclusively of the State of Ukraine.
